VISUAL~
As a commercial designer in the field of advertising, Melissa uses exquisite detail and a full range of design styles to develop singular and productive identities and campaigns. She has worked at every aspect of design from a pre-digital, analog workflow to a fully-digital design environment.

Whitespace Creative, LLC, Melissa’s communication design studio, develops sustainable marketing and media plans as well as full creative and production work for clients in the arts and sustainable businesses: Recycle Runway, High Country Gardens, i.e. architecture, Milagro Compost, Spirit of the Garden, Ethnosphere Music Lab and others. She has won Addy’s® for her design work for Nancy Youngblood, the Santa Fe Opera and Tall Grass Restoration.

Prior to Whitespace Creative, LLC, Melissa was the creative director for Impressions Advertising from 2000 to 2005. During her tenure, the agency secured the following long-term accounts: the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Santa Fe County, First National Bank of Santa Fe, the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, the Lensic and 999dine.com. As creative director, Melissa handled designers, illustrators and photographers, planned and oversaw all print and web creative, helped develop marketing and media plans, directed the departmental budget and worked as an account manager. Impressions began an agency internship program with the Greer Garson Theatre during this time.

Melissa has spent 6 years in magazine design and production, developing her workflow skills and color management abilities. As advertising designer for Indian Artist magazine and production designer for the Santa Fean, she had the responsibility for going on press to check color, and interfacing with advertising representatives and print representatives. She has also worked as an advertising production consultant for Mothering magazine in Santa Fe.

In 2002, she turned her design eye to the web and created several projects. She currently designs and develops web content and search engine optimization for her Santa Fe clients.

VERBAL~

Her Buddhist travel memoir, “Dizzy Sushi” will be published in 2009 by Tres Chicas Books http://www.treschicasbooks.com. “Dizzy Sushi” won the Recursos de Santa Fe Discovery Prize and excerpts have been published in Yomimono and Noctiluca magazines from Japan.
